Exemplars

Phase 3 (Sep13-Jun14), six users will explore how the GlobAlbedo can help improve their scientific understanding or improve their operational forecasts:

• Dr Alexander Loew (MPI-Hamburg, DE) will assess the impact of GlobAlbedo on GCM climate forecasts
• Dr Tristan Quaife (NCEO Reading, UK) will assimilate GlobAlbedo data into the Uk Hadley Climate Centre JULES land surface model
• Dr Sonia Seneviratne and Dr Edouard Davin (Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science, Zurich, CH) will study the characterisation of Land Use/Land cover change impacts on surface albedo
• Dr Gunnar Myhre (CICERO, Norway) will study Radiative forcing due to land use changes derived from GlobAlbedo product
• Dr Bob Su (ITC, University of Twente, NL) will perform an independent evaluation of albedo for flux sites in Australia & China as well as generate 1km maps of water cycle and water balance for Asia and Tibet
• Dr Samantha Pullen and Dr Malcolm Brooks (Met Office, Exeter, UK) are working on the installation of GlobAlbedo products in the Met Office weather and climate models to replace the current MODIS
